Ameritech Challenge
The Ameritech site has been a static site, maintained with flat HTML files. Continued development and maintenance of the site incurred a heavy cost with the flat file architecture. Support of the site was becoming a large task that interfered with new development and required extra resources to be present at all times. Since the site was static, there was therefore no personalization functionality. Ameritech sought to rectify this situation with the follow goals in mind:
  • Significantly improve the level of personalization within www.ameritech.com and is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of content management
  • Decrease support and maintenance costs
  • Decrease technical expertise required to support and maintain the site by separating content development from technical template development
  • Create content management user interfaces, which enable content managers to support their own site

Solution
Ameritech Ameritech's products change constantly and regulation keeps this content under scrutiny. Content changes have fast and strict deadlines. NetObjective worked with Ameritech to design a content management system that met their ever-changing needs. Content managers are now able to quickly manipulate site content in a centralized user interface to control the site and it's content.

The "Site Builder"

Ameritech Challenge
At the time, Ameritech was employing a basic flat file html approach to building and maintaining their web site. They have thousands of pages, which need to be change quite frequently, given pricing and regulation changes. Many of these changes force sweeping changes to the site on a regular basis. For example, a simple change in a navigation bar would need to be manually propagated into hundreds of html files.

Solution
NetObjective saw this problem and anticipated the future needs of Ameritech by building a system called "Site Builder". The Site Builder is a foundation for building and managing a growing pool of content and enables team members to collaboratively develop and manage their online business. This helps Ameritech cost effectively deliver the content customers want, when they want it. It also lowers operational costs and increases productivity by creating an efficient work environment, while decreasing time-to-deployment. The Site Builder does this by linking content, content display, content management, and site construction into a single, cohesive, and easy to use browser based management system.
